Custom embroidered caps

Of everything we decorate, caps are the thing shops come back for. Not once — repeatedly. Same buyer, new order, a few months later.

We've sold a lot of them on Faire and FashionGo, and the pattern there is the same one we see on our own site: a shop tries one design, it moves, and they order it again. That's a rarer thing than it sounds. Most custom orders are one-time. Caps aren't.

Why caps repeat when shirts don't

A shirt is a size problem. You order twelve and you're guessing at the spread — how many smalls, how many XLs — and whatever you guess wrong on sits in the back room.

A cap is one size. There is nothing to guess.

That changes the math for a retailer. Twelve caps is twelve sellable units, not twelve units minus the two extra-larges nobody wanted. Sell-through is cleaner, the reorder decision is obvious, and the shelf space is small.

It also holds embroidery better than almost anything else. The structured front panel is a flat, stable surface built for a machine to stitch into — which is why a well-made embroidered cap still looks new long after a printed shirt has cracked and faded.

Twelve, not twenty-four

If you've bought custom caps on a wholesale marketplace, you've run into the 24-piece minimum. It's standard there, and it's the reason a lot of small shops never try.

Ordering direct from us, the minimum is 12.

That difference matters more than the number suggests. Twenty-four caps of an untested design is a commitment. Twelve is an experiment. You can put a dozen on the shelf, watch what happens for a month, and reorder the one that moved instead of guessing twice.

Where you order Minimum
Faire 24 pieces
FashionGo 24 pieces
Direct from us 12 pieces

You don't need a finished logo

This stops more orders than price does. A shop owner has an idea and no artwork, assumes that's the end of it, and never asks.

Two ways around it.

Start from a template. We keep a library of designs that already work on caps — the layouts, letter weights and sizes that stitch cleanly. Put your town name, your shop name or your phrase into one and you have a finished cap without a designer.

Or hand it to our design team. Send a sketch, a photo of your sign, a font you like, or just a description of what you want. They'll build the artwork and send back a mockup before anything gets stitched.

Either way you see it on the actual cap colors before you decide.

What the design should actually be

The caps that sell are rarely complicated. A town name. A short phrase. A simple mark. Three or four words at most.

Embroidery has a floor on detail — thread can't hold letters much below a quarter inch, on any machine anywhere — so the constraint pushes you toward the thing that works better commercially anyway. A cap someone can read across a room outsells a cap with a detailed crest on it.

Two words and a state abbreviation. That is the whole design, and it is the one that sells.

If your logo is fine or intricate, that's worth knowing before you order rather than after. We'll tell you when a design needs simplifying, and what it would look like simplified.

The part we like

Our staff spot caps we made in shops around Long Island. Somebody notices one on a shelf in a boutique two towns over, takes a photo, sends it to the group.

It's a small thing and it doesn't show up on any report, but it's the clearest signal we get that the work landed — not that a shop bought it, but that a shop put it out front and someone picked it up.
